    Deeper scientific analysis: Giant Snowball

    Posted: 13 Feb 2021 06:40 PM PST

I've been told that the Giant Snowball has more to it than what I wrote in my Frozen Peak post. So let's get to it.

The Giant Snowball has a PHYSICAL radius of 1.5 tiles. The average density of snow is 550 kilograms per cubic metre. 1.5 tiles is equivalent to 2.25 metres. The formula for a sphere's volume is as follows:

The cube radius multiplied by 4/3 and π is equal to a sphere's volume.

The cube of 2.25 is 11.39, and that multiplied by 4/3 is 15.19. That multiplied by pi is 47.72. The Giant Snowball has a volume of 47.72 cubic metres. Plug that in to the earlier density formula, and the weight of the Giant Snowball comes out as 26246 kilograms, or 28.9 Imperial tons. That brings us to Newton's second law: Force = Mass x Acceleration. This law dictates the force generated by a moving object, taking into account the object's mass and acceleration. In the Giant Snowball's original science segment, I calculated that it moves at a pace of 50.75 kilometres per hour. Putting these figures into the mass and acceleration calculator demonstrates that the force required to accelerate the Snowball to its flight speed is 369990 newtons, and that force is carried with the snowball as it flies.

1000 newtons would feel as if a fat person was sitting on you. The poor troops you're crushing under the Snowball are getting 370 times that. Forget firing a rocket, this snowball can and will brutally murder anything under it. By the way, there will be 47720 litres of snow on the ground afterward. And snow is six times more compact than water. The arena is 324 square metres in size. The troops in indoor arenas are going to be at least neck deep in water, given that there's 286.32 cubic metres of the stuff filling the stadium.

That is it for the Giant Snowball. Feel free to point out and correct any syntax or calculation errors I may have made.

I use my limited understanding of Science to figure out the realistic implications of cards. Part 10: Jungle Arena

    Posted: 13 Feb 2021 06:03 PM PST

Clash Royale is a cartoony, unrealistic fast-paced battle game where an old woman who makes magical pigs does battle against a man who throws boomerang battle axes. It's not realistic in the slightest, and I aim to remedy that. I'm no scientist, but I'm armed with Bill Nye, Wikipedia, and a Google search which confirms that nobody's done something like this before. All that said, let's get started.

Before we start, a wild boar averages about 150 centimetres in length at adulthood. The Hog Rider has a length of about 2 tiles in game, meaning each tile is 75 centimetres in length and width.

Goblin Gang: It's just a composite troop. The things which apply to the Goblins and Spear Goblins will also apply here.

Rascals: Using child soldiers is prohibited under IHL Rule 136.

Dart Goblin: A blowgun has a general range of just over 24 tiles, or 20 yards. The Dart Goblin, in game, however, has a meager range of 6.5 tiles. To compensate, the Dart Goblin has godlike accuracy, able to predict the pathing of targets and pre-emptively curve darts to hit the target no matter what. Though the darts autonomously turning in midair is obviously impossible.

Earthquake: Elixir travels through the ground via Ley Lines. Elixir is clearly extractable via pipelines, as evidenced by the Elixir Collector's appearance. Now, when you deploy an Earthquake on the enemy's side, the pipes are wrecked by the quake. The Earthquake not only inflicts devastating damage on buildings, but also cuts off the opponent's Elixir supply completely. Electro Valley would have an especially bad time as the Earthquake takes out the power lines, disabling the stadium's vital functions. However, one of the main threats of a real earthquake (falling building debris) is mitigated due to the lack of tall structures in most of the arenas.

Goblin Giant: Square-cube law still applies, meaning the Goblin Giant metabolizes too fast, meaning he explodes into gore.

Bandit: The Bandit's dashing invincibility causes a few complications. Her inability to take damage during this time implies that the particles she is composed of cannot be moved, which would actually make her immune to damage. It would also stop all her organs.

Mother Witch: There's just so much wrong with the Mother Witch. You can't turn a human into a pig! That isn't how science works! There's no such thing as a curse!

That is it for Jungle Arena, the game's shortest arena in terms of cards. Make corrections if you find mistakes here.

Edit: Thanks to u/Mew_Pur_Pur for pointing out that the Goblin Giant's Spear Goblins actually have 0.5 tiles (37.5 cm) of extra range.

"Let's make it super hard and expensive to level cards up! Let's introduce new cards and convince everyone to use them. Then, when everyone is using a particular card we will say that it needs to be nerfed! Why? Because fuck 'em, that's why!"

A summary of today´s CRL controverses

    Posted: 13 Feb 2021 04:08 PM PST

So many people don´t know that the first stage of the Clash Royale League monthly qualifiers happened today, since there was no official stream and most games were just broadcasted by streamers watching over their friendlists, also most of this sub don´t know much about the esports scene in general, so I wanted to give a summary of what happened today:

First of all, I need to explain that the CRL changed it´s format for 2021, it is now no longer team based, and you have to actually qualify for it. The players who finished Top 1000 at the end of the season will qualify for the next stage, which took place today. The second stage is consisting of 4 brackets, which are played in a swiss format (You always play against a player that has the same amount of wins as you). The Top 8 of each bracket will move on to the next stage (and also earn 1000 Dollars for sure). Each match is a Duels Best of 3, the same format also used in CW2.

The first and second bracket went rather smooth, at the third bracket there were some things that didn´t go that well tho:

    - In the Bo3 between BlackPearl and Reichert, BlackPearl played Mega Minion twice and went on to win the series, something that actually happened quite often today but most of the time led to a free win. The issue here was that Reichert reached out to the admins about that but got ignored for 20 minutes. BlackPearl just got the win and the bracket continued. At the end of the tournament both players ended up in the Top 8, however for BlackPearl this win was crucial, as he wouldn´t have made it otherwise.

    - In the Bo3 between Emir Uzumaki and Hugo CR V2, Emir played Log twice and Hugo played Hunter twice, however Hugo reported it to the admins and got the freewin, instead of having a rematch because both players used a card twice. Emir contacted the admins about this issue and got the response, that he should´ve reported it as well and they won´t remake the match. (https://twitter.com/EmirUzumaki/status/1360716891468218375) Later on they changed their opinion on that and gave a rematch, which Emir won, kicking Hugo out of the Top 8. Emir didn´t make it into the Top 8 tho.

    - The bracket featured a weird tiebreaker system: What counted after the amount of wins was not the winrate or a direct comparison but rather the opponent winrate (which is the combined winrate of every player you faced). This led to players like xopxsam, who raged about it on twitter (https://twitter.com/xopxsam_/status/1360702419320119296), not making it into the Top 8, despite having one of the best winrates in the bracket.

    - The other issue with the OW-tiebreaker was that Morten faced bigbag in round 2, who forfeited the tournament, thus having a terrible OW, because one of his opponents had a literal winrate of 11%. Morten ended up finishind 9th after the Emir/Hugo rematch. So Morten, one of the best players in the history of the game didn´t make it to the next round because of pure bad luck.

Another thing that made everything more unfair is how the 4 brackets were split up: The first bracket started at 8 am GMT and featured 108 players, while the fourth bracket started at 8 pm GMT and featured 199 players. So anyone playing in the fourth bracket had a natural disadvantage, due to having more good players in their bracket that the guys playing in the first bracket. That means if you played at an unorthodox time you had a better shot at making it to the next stage.

    Similar ladder deck matchups

    Posted: 13 Feb 2021 10:05 PM PST

I've been noticing for the last couple of seasons what looks like a change to ladder matchups where you seem to often match against certain deck archetypes for 2 matches in a row. I would accept it as a one off now & then but accross 3 acc's I play I'm seeing similar patterns & up to a couple of seasons ago I never used to see it. Anyone else notice it? It's great if matchup is in your favour as with my latest one with splashyard in back to back matches, but when it's the other way round it's a tad annoying. Currently in 5700-5800 range.
