Inconsistency after the electro wizard nerf

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 07:28 PM PST

After ewiz got its damage nerf, some interactions changed, like needing an extra hit to kill minions or not being to one shot spirits. While playing ladder earlier today I noticed an interaction change, my ewiz can't kill archers or firecracker with its spawn zap + one of his attacks. I looked into the stats and noticed archers and firecracker have 367 hp at max level. Zap deals 251 damage and ewiz deals 135 x 2. 251 + 135 = 366, one damage short.

At tournament standard, however archers and firecracker have 252 hp. Zap deals 159 damage and ewiz deals 93 x 2. 159 + 93 = 252. Which means electro wizard is intended to be able to kill archers and firecracker with its spawn zap and one hit, but it doesn't at max level. This can make a huge difference in matches. Idk if it's hard to do because of the scaling through levels, but electro wizard needs to deal one more damage at max level to change this inconsistency

Tips to Improve for both Midladder and Maxed Ladder

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:35 PM PST

Since a decent number of people thought that this would be a good idea, here it is. This post will focus separately on midladder and maxed ladder (6000 trophy finish to Top 1000 finishes).

    Midladder

Depending on the deck you use, if you are a F2P player, you want to stick with a deck and level it up as fully maxing a deck without paying can take anywhere from 10 months to 16 months. You can make your own deck that does decent against meta decks for when you get higher in trophies after you max your deck, but if you're looking for a meta deck, then the best in order of easy to level up are:

    - 2.9/3.0 X-Bow

    - 2.6 Hog Cycle

    - Log Bait (Classic)

    - Minerloon Cycle (Classic)

    - IceBow

    - Giant GY (Classic)

    - Giant Sparky F2P variant (Giant, Sparky, Zap, Arrows, Minion Horde, Skeleton Army, Spear Goblins, Bats)

    - Pekka BS

In order of effectiveness against midladder when underleveled, the order would be:

    - Giant Sparky

    - IceBow

    - Pekka BS

    - Log Bait

    - Giant GY

    - 2.6 Hog Cycle

    - Minerloon Cycle (Classic)

    - 2.9/3.0 X-Bow

Now, onto tips to improve gameplay.

    Counting Elixir

This is exactly what it sounds like. You will hear from many pros that counting elixir is not required for good gameplay, as long as they have a general idea of how much elixir their opponent is on, they can succeed. However, it is recommended that you try to count elixir exactly to help you develop that sense so you don't need to count elixir in the future.

Many people try to count directly what their opponents' elixir is, but the best way to count elixir is to in fact count their elixir in terms of your own elixir. For example, if you played a Knight and Log at the start of the game, and your opponent has played a Baby Dragon, and neither of you has leaked, then you will be down 1 elixir. This, in my opinion, is the easiest way to learn to count elixir.

If your opponent decides to leak, and you aren't sure exactly how much they leaked, then you should overestimate their elixir so you can't be punished for thinking that they were on 8 elixir when in reality, they were on 7 elixir.

    Of course, practice makes perfect.

You should also try to control yourself from overcommitting or under committing on both offense and defense, sometimes it's better to soak up 400 damage instead of playing a 4 elixir card that will get no value after you play it.

    Cycle Counting

Cycle counting involves you tracking your opponent's hand and cycle. The easiest way to learn to do this is to remember the order that your opponent played their cards. For example, if your opponent played Baby Dragon, Mega Minion, Barb Barrel, Tornado, and Golem in that order, then you know the other three cards that have not been played and Baby Dragon will be in their hand, since a card comes back into your hand if you play 4 cards after the card you want to get back in your hand. Also, practice makes perfect.

    Playstyle

For midladder, since the majority of decks your opponents play aren't meta, the best playstyle to maintain is a passive one. Many times, you will lose from rushing the bridge after they expended one of their counters, and a normal deck wouldn't have two counters, but turns out, they have another counter and you end up being punished by it. If you are absolutely above elixir and there is no possible way for your opponent to get a good trade, then go for an aggressive playstyle, but most of the time, a passive and conservative playstyle is best to maintain.

In addition, it is best to constantly be high on elixir. This means that you can be prepared for most situations assuming your deck is good. If you are surprised by a minion horde and you have absolutely nothing for it, go for a creative defense such as kiting it to minimise damage. Never be intimidated, and losing because you're underleveled is completely normal. If you feel that your gameplay is deteriorating due to your mentality suffering, then it is best to take a break.

    Maxed Ladder

All of the previous tips apply to maxed ladder, which is when you max your deck. More complex plays will be made, including predictions and noticing your opponents' tendencies, such as placing a defensive Valkyrie in the same spot when you have a Royal Ghost coming.

Until top 3k (for midseason to late season), there will still be many non-meta decks, so maintaining the passive playstyle whenever you don't know your opponent's deck is the play to make. You will need to adapt your playstyle even more specifically to your opponent's deck is, so you know how to play optimally to win.

    Matchup Knowledge

This is where matchup knowledge comes in. Also, note that this is the reason why many players choose to play a meta deck. For your deck, every deck you play against requires a different playstyle, otherwise, your opponent might take advantage of the fact that you're not making the most optimal plays, and may win purely off that. For example, if you're facing 2.9 X-Bow with Pekka BS, then you will need to play passively so your opponent doesn't get a lock on your tower, while you need to apply enough pressure so they can't stack defensive X-Bows or Teslas. On the other hand, against Barb Hut GY, you will need to play extremely aggressive in single elixir as that is the only period of time where you can break through.

The best place to learn how to play specific matchups is to friend a very good player so you can self-evaluate their gameplay and why they're making certain plays. Otherwise, watching Youtube is a great choice.

For people playing off-meta decks, do not fret. Although it may be harder to learn the specific matchups, it is still manageable. Learn to experiment with different playstyles against certain matchups, and what works works.

    Making Smart Plays

You have probably seen pro players make insane predictions, or sometimes you don't even realise that they went through a whole thought process just to arrive at a normal-looking play.

The first step is to learn every single interaction with your deck, and the optimal play to make in some situations. Watching pros' gameplay or even your own replays will help you realise these small interactions, so you can make good defensive and offensive plays.

Next, in single elixir, try to make sense of every play you make, and asking yourself, "Why did I make this play?" This will help you understand the thought processes behind a good play, and what differentiates it from a bad play.

In addition, using the knowledge you have of your opponents' general elixir and their hand, you can make predictions. For example, if your opponents' hand is Musketeer, Barb Barrel, Skeletons, and Miner, and you go for a Balloon, then you can play a prediction Miner to where your opponent usually plays their Musketeer. Don't make predictions that are extremely risky, as some predictions may cost you dearly if they do not work.

    Afterword

Hopefully, this guide has been a help to you, I wrote it up in 20 minutes or so so it may have some parts that have not been covered, but I would be more than happy to answer any questions in the comments. Thanks!

There are a few tips that clearly separate people who can't get a 6k finish with a max deck, and people who can get a top 1k finish. If anyone would like to see a compilation of tips in the form of a post, please let me know.

Clash or Chess - which one is more complex?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 07:46 PM PST

So me and my friend had an "argument" - which game is more complex in term of available configurations amount (configuration is basically a state in complexity terms) Clash Royale or Chess.

I've found out that one upper limit for chess is: 7.7*1045

So to win the argument I have to prove that CR got a lower limit of more than 7.7*1045.

Things to take into account: * Elixir/Time * "Live" game - each player movement could happen in different stepnum/time and order * Different character ineraction * Multi-effect interactions (e.g. arrows can hit both skeletons and giant at the same time) * Grid size * Levels - character/tower And so on 🐒...

Heuristically I'm certain that I'm right, but I've worked too much hours on my stupid game today that I have no active neurons left 🤦‍♀️

    I regret nothing 😳

I don’t understand how nothing has been done to fix clan war. About to walk away from game.

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 07:23 AM PST

We had an active smallish clan with a fair number of real life friends who were only sporadically active.

Then cw2 hit. We finished the final week boat race one time.

Clan is falling apart and I have no motivation to play.

I've been playing this game a long time. It really frustrates me that they are just letting CW 2 sit when there are immediate fixes that would make it bearable.
