    [Math] The Time it Takes to Get a Max Account: Refund Gold Value Updated

    With a lot of recent economy changes, I figured that this topic is worth revisiting. I'll go over the RGV of every chest and other stuff, like how much gem value those in the shop have and how long it takes to max an account for an active f2p skilled player who starts today.

    What RGV is; Technical stuff

    1. I use "expected value", one of the great tools in statistics. Odds become numbers. For example, a 60% chance for an epic is 0.6 epics. The calculations resemble opening many of these chests.
    2. How you make transactions between gold and cards is up to you and your decisions. I converted everything into gold, and called it Refund Gold Value (RGV). It's basically a way to measure the value of things. I may make a different post exploring the economy of separate rarities.
    3. Despite calling it "refund", in my math I did not consider tokens as having any value. Also, I did not add value to wild cards or to chests that improve your odds. This is because they allow the transactions that make the former assumption reasonable.
    4. Common = 5 gold, Rare = 50 gold, Epic = 500 gold, Legendary = 20000 gold.
    5. Gems have no RGV value in their raw form.
    6. Arena 15 for lv13 player.

    How long to max: Assumptions

    Obviously, I have to make a list of reasonable assumptions to make this work. Here's what I assumed for our template player, he:

    • !!! VERY IMPORTANT!!! I assume the economy won't change during this journey, but the arenas will be filled. i.e. 120 cards, 2 of each rarity in every arena.
    • Doesn't waste gold in the shop
    • Gets to 6500 every season from the start

    + Doesn't get any chests worse than Arena 15's

    − Doesn't get trophy road rewards until 5000

    • Has a level 13 king from the start
    • Opens a chest all the time, but doesn't take any advantage of speed boosts
    • Completes free Pass Royale always
    • Gets 90% value out of the magic books

    Assumed distribution of books per year: 6 common, 3 rare, 2 epic, 1 legendary

    • Never overflows magic books or keys
    • Gets an average of 13h skips with magic keys
    • 3 daily requests and an epic one on Sunday
    • Doesn't play victory challenges (too variable)
    • Wins 75% of special challenge rewards (based on Season 24 as baseline)
    • Wins 90% of free global tournament rewards, excluding the top #50 one.
    • Buys global tournament bonus rewards once every 2 months
    • Is in a Legendary I clan that gets 3rd place every single time
    • 50% winrate in wars. Plays a duel and then only 1v1s
    • Gets victory gold ~7 times a day on average
    • Gets every daily gift
    • Completes the two gold rushes every season
    • Doesn't get any free gifts in the shop (i.e. on anniversaries)
    • Doesn't get gifts from clanmates buying Pass Royale

    How long to max: Answer

    The math is too long for reddit. Here's a link to a 10-page LaTeX file detailing my process. I made it nice to read, so please give it a look!

    The answer is just under 4 years.

    I also calculated it with consistently buying Pass Royale, making assumptions about the value of Book of Books and the Magic Coin. With them, the time was brought down to 3.1 years.

    I knew it was good, but it was even shorter than I expected! For only 4 years, even the "begin in legendary arena and good at the game" assumption becomes questionable.
