    This is so annoying, it is impossible to climb. I used to be able to hit around 5.4K the past 2 seasons, but now I can't get was 4.8k every time reach that count I go against max level 13 players.

    So demotivating when I gain 30tropjies and lose 31 trophies, this is the worst thing supercell has done for clash royale.

    Now we can no longer get more rewards and it just slows our progression overall.

    [Effort post] In two weeks it will be exactly 5 years since Clash Royale's first update. This is an overview & review of what we have gotten from each update

    Based on his extremely controversial speech "Let's go whaling", Finnish CEO Torulf Jernström has stated that creating content (stories & new experiences to explore) is too expensive and not worth it. Instead, he promotes the creation and selling of only (timestamp: 2m 15s) convenience items, customization items, and competitive advantage packages.

    Surely, the Clash Royale team is better than that and they have used their time and resources to create a better game for us in the past 5 years. Let's see and try to judge the updates from the unbiased perspective of us as regular players/customers.


    Feature: New Cards

    In total, in all updates, we have gotten 12 Common, 13 Rare, 13 Epic, and 16 Legendary new Cards (please correct me if those numbers are off).

    • Value for Free To Play: 3/10 Getting ~12 new Common cards (which are relatively easy to upgrade) in the span of 5 years is better than getting none. However, more cards in the pool of cards mean getting less of the cards you've been focusing on upgrading.

    • Value for Light Spenders: 4/10 Getting ~13 rares that might be easier to upgrade as a light spender is pretty good because it adds some variety to the game but it's rarely something considered extremely exciting.

    • Value for Whales: 6/10 New ~26 Epics and Rares can be exciting to try out, and to eventually implement some of them into your deck. Especially if you can do it right away. It should be noted that the added variety of playing with or against new cards isn't always adding enough novelty into the game in order to make it feel fresh and exciting.

    The effort to create: 7/10 Creating brand new cards starting with ideas to concept arts, to 3D Models and animation, to testing and balance must not be that easy. It is probably a very good investment to put your resources to - especially for Epic & Legendary cards, but still takes a lot of effort.


    Feature: Tournaments

    • Value for Free To Play: 0.2/10

    • Value for Light Spenders: 0.2/10

    • Value for Whales: 0.2/10

    The effort to create: 3/10 Tournaments is a pretty much failed legacy feature, later revamped and renamed to "Custom Tournaments" which made it possible for a clan or group of friends to enjoy playing together in friendly battles while still declaring a winner.


    Feature: Special Event Challenges

    • Value for Free To Play: 8/10

    • Value for Light Spenders: 8/10

    • Value for Whales: 8/10

    The effort to create: 7/10 The main reason for the very high scores is that this update introduced 2v2 mode. It is still a fun, original, available to everyone feature. A great way to have fun with friends. The reason that it is not 10/10 is because 2v2 was never advanced and implemented into the core progression of the game as well as 1v1 ladder has. Along with 2v2, there is a variety of other events as well.


    Feature: Clan Chest Events

    • Value for Free To Play: 9/10

    • Value for Light Spenders: 9/10

    • Value for Whales: 9/10

    The effort to create: 6/10 This legacy feature was an incredible foundation that allowed you to progress together with your clan. Available to everyone, fun, play as little or as much as you like - either alone or in 2v2. Or both. Anything. Just have fun and help everyone out in the process. The reason it's not 10/10 is that instead of being built upon it, the feature was dropped so clan progression can go into a much different, more niche direction.


    Feature: Quests

    • Value for Free To Play: 1.5/10

    • Value for Light Spenders: 1.5/10

    • Value for Whales: 1.5/10

    The effort to create: 3/10 A legacy feature which added the burden to play the game in a specific way, or using specific cards on daily basis. Rarely enjoyed.


    Feature: Pass Royale

    • Value for Free To Play: 1.5/10

    • Value for Light Spenders: 6/10

    • Value for Whales: 2/10

    The effort to create: 4/10 It adds no new content other than a few premium cosmetic items per month. No new way to play, just a new way to pay for a package of rewards while doing exactly what you were doing before - playing 1v1 ladder.


    Feature: Clan Wars

    • Value for Free To Play: 3/10 The level 12 Cap in Legendary League and the requirement to use different cards made it a burden to upgrade almost every card as fast as possible or else you were holding your clan back by generating losses in case you wanted to participate.

    • Value for Light Spenders: 4/10

    • Value for Whales: 4/10

    The effort to create: 6/10 A much more complex, yet niche replacement feature of Clan Chest Events. It removed the freedom and fun to play as much as you like in order to help your clan (on any level). It added a structure, and a level cap which required everyone who was willing to participate to do a particular number of battles per day against people who were not even in the specific clans that they were battling against. The only clear advantage of so much work from the CR Team is that players were pushed to upgrade their cards to levels 11 or 12.


    Feature: Clan Wars 2

    • Value for Free To Play: 1/10 The level 13 Cap and 4 decks needed, plus level 13 Cap in boat defenses makes this feature the definition of pay to win. The requirement to participate almost punishes your entire clan if a lot your cards are not leveled up quickly.

    • Value for Light Spenders: 2/10

    • Value for Whales: 2/10

    The effort to create: 7/10 An even more complex, yet much more niche replacement feature of the original Clan Wars. It removed the freedom to even play with a relatively random set of cards. Yet, it holds to the restriction to only play a particular number of battles per day. It also removed the freedom of not participating. The clear winner to the creation of this mode is the CR team which probably cares about not-so-slightly almost directly pushing Leaders to push people to upgrade their cards.

    So far in terms of the past 5 years I would rate the Clash Royale updates 3/10.

    They were going in an excellent, player-friendly direction during the 2v2, Clan Chest, Mute Button era and then did a 180 and have seemed to drive in a downhill direction since. Hopefully the next 5 years (or less) change things for the better!

    +30 win/ -30 lose. Why?

    This has been the worst idea SC ever had. As a player, who only buys the battle pass I'm nowhere near being a maxed out lvl 13. I got used to the game being overwhelming when it comes to being over-leveled, but this change is probably the last straw for me. You see, at the end of every season, I was able to push to at least 5200 trophies easily, because I was matched according to my own level of KT and my cards. I can say I'm pretty decent at the game, but nowhere near being a pro. This change ruined my ability to push 5200 trophies and it's because all the level 13 are now stuck at 4600 range. Yes, this shows how being the higher level gives you a higher chance of winning (obviously), but now, everyone who isn't maxed out can't push over a certain amount, because it gets impossible. You need to be at a pro level to be able to compete with all of these lvl 13's, but even then it's very hard.

    What I think is that you should be unable to drop bellow a certain amount based on your level of king tower. For example, a level 13 will not be able to drop bellow 5000, so lower level players can peacefully enjoy their legendary card and a giant's chest. Which is not the best solution, but getting those two rewards might make a difference in the long run.

    I don't usually play Ladder, but when I do, I just want those two things and be done with it.. I still play the game, but I usually spend my time in the party mode for some fun time.

    terrible game at the current state of things

    The game in its current form is not fun. I've been a paying player for four years. ive played in all the clan war variants. been in good clans. ive got 30 maxed out cards with abother 30ish ready to max as I get 100k coins.

    my main pleasure in this game was and is 2v2. the random chaos & finding synergies and meeting players , adding friends etc...by far the most fun thing to do.

    I also play ladder but none of my decks are meta, they are just for fun. I know they are sub par and I don't care. ive never really "pushed hard" I just get up to around 5600 every month with the stuff I enjoy playing. I play to have fun.

    these new changes with clan wars, ladder changes and a seemingly never ending wave of newer cards that are more powerful than the last is pretty much the end for me.

    its sad . this game has so much potential and it seems those in charge only care about some short term money and not long term playerbase. I pay to support games I love. ive probably got a few hundred $ into CR. but I recognize we as a community need a solid f2p foundation.

    sorry for the rant but im just scratching my head with how the powers that be can think making it this difficult to gain in trophies a good thing. im hovering around 5k with my non meta deck. I know I can play a meta deck with a better win rate but god dammit I dont want to play one of the same 5 decks as everyone else. i was ok with not being a top player...or getting past 6k. but now if I wanna get past 5k , I need to build a meta deck and keep.up with the meta every season? no thanks. big mistake punishing casual / non meta players IMO. maybe ill check back in few months to see if this bad decision has been corrected.

    Was there some kind of matchmaking change? Im at 4,9k and I only play against people with full maxed Starlevel decks. For real I only play against people with 10k games played.

    clash royale recently made a change on the trophy system. Didn't really notice something about it because my main is now at 6k, pretty normal having 7 days left for the season and I always try to grind to 6.6k at the last 3 days of the season.

    Then here comes gold rush so I tried to play my mini account (level 10 KT) with a PB of 5800 and there are a lot of level 13's at challenger 3 lmao. Its so annoying and im not blaming supercell tho, some really just sucks at the game so if you are stuck below 5300 this season with a max deck and level 13KT im sorry to tell you but you're a below average player.

    Im not saying that the change was good but IF YOU HAVE A MAX ACCOUNT YOU SHOULD BE FINE :) so pls stop whining and if you are a level 10/11 player i think anything above 5k would be decent. Just look for a good clan that constantly finishes war races since ladder rewards isn't even great.
