[Effort Post] [STATS] October Ladder Meta Analysis

    Intro

What follows is the current ladder meta decks from the last 7 days.

The goal is to track ARCHETYPES, not individual cards. if you want to see the usage of other cards, use the card visualization tool on royaleAPI

CR archetypes are difficult to define. The following is a set of sub-archetypes picked because they can be defined simply, and are thus easy to search for on RoyaleAPI.

I removed the duplicate decks as much as possible to not to distort the data

    Stats

    Comments

    September stats
    https://www.reddit.com/r/ClashRoyale/comments/dc9b1r/effort_post_stats_september_ladder_meta_analysis/

    • Decrease in usage of most archetypes in correlation with the addition of new archetype, WB ( miner + MK) and exilir golem
    • No surprise, huge increase in the use of witch, the use increased by +30% in the highest leagues
    • Golem NW is rising, have we already found one of the most popular decks for November ?
    • Even if he has only a few weeks to upgrade it, the elixir golem is already played more than some archetype

    Bonus

    Note

    • Which decks do you find necessary to be included next month?
    • What are your thoughts on the current LADDER meta?
    • Addition of a new table "Wall Breakers" + "Elixir golem", replacement of "MK bait" by "MK WB", removal of "giant miner"

    • New column "difference", it shows the difference between the deck use rate compared to the previous month

    • I added icons trying to make the graph more visual, tell me this is a good idea, I try to simplify the sheet by making it more visual, easier to watch but if it is extremely difficult for so much data

This is a way to deal with two waves of the furnace fire spirits with one ice spirit. Let your tower kill one fire spirit, then place the ice spirit to tank the second fire spirit’s leap. Your ice spirit will barely survive to jump on the next wave. It’s hard to time but becomes easier with practice

[Effort] What makes Elite Barbarians difficult to balance? Stairstep value graphs

[Effort] What makes Elite Barbarians difficult to balance? Stairstep value graphs

People have voiced a lot of concerns about Elite Barbarians, but there is one stat that people don't talk nearly enough about: their count. What is wrong with it? Before getting into Elite Barbarians, I want to quickly introduce stairstep graphs to explain that.

Stairstep graphs fluctuate at given points, and are flat elsewhere. In Clash Royale, most cards generate value in a similar manner, because of their hitspeed.

Slow hitspeed cards generate value in big chunks. Fast hitspeed cards generate value inflow.

Another place where stairstep cards come into play are swarms. Swarms start out with a 100% potential. But whenever a part of them dies, the potential gets reduced. For instance, Barbarians get reduced like 100%-80%-60%-40%-20%. In a way, each part of a swarm is also 1 over their elixir cost. And similar to fast hitspeed, big swarms lose potential uniformly, while small swarms lose it in big chunks.

Here is a list of all the swarms:

Card / Value Value of each part Offensive ranking (1 to 5)
    Skeleton Army / 0.2 6.7% 1.5
    Skeletons / 0.33 33.3% 1
    Bats / 0.4 20% 2
    Goblins / 0.67 33.3% 2.5
    Fire Spirits / 0.67 33.3% 2
    Spear Goblins / 0.67 33.3% 3.5
    Minion Horde / 0.83 16.7% 3
    Wall Breakers / 1.0 50% 5
    Minions / 1.0 33.3% 2.5
    Guards / 1.0 33.3% 1
    Barbarians / 1.0 20% 2
    Royal Recruits / 1.17 16.7% 2
    Royal Hogs / 1.25 25% 5
    Zappies / 1.33 33.3% 1
    Archers / 1.5 50% 1.5
    Three Musketeers / 3.0 33.3% 3
    Elite Barbarians / 3.0 50% 4

Now, I want the attention to be on the small swarms (made of two units). They lose their potential in the biggest chunks. They are not disposable, but also not completely solid. If you lose one of the parts, the damage output is cut down to 50%. Now there are two ways to prevent this from being an issue.

    1. Make the card more defensive. You have more control over the placement of your defense. This is how Archers don't have the problem.
    2. Make the card cheaper. Losing one of them is less of a deal. This is how Wall Breakers don't have the problem.

Elite Barbarians are offensive because of their very fast movement speed. They are also very expensive. So they are all in rejecting both of these solutions.

    -----

The solution? It doesn't seem like Elite Barbarians will ever be changed to be a bigger swarm, so that leaves us with two things to do to stop reduce the madness:

    • Make Elite Barbarians less offensive, more defensive.
    • Reduce elixir cost.

What do you think? I personally think that the perfect balance change would be a combination of both. Here is what I came up with:

    Cost -1 (6-->5), Movement Speed -25% (Very Fast-->Fast), Damage -27% (300-->220), Hitspeed +18% (1.7sec-->1.4sec)

    CRL is toxic

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 08:27 PM PDT

    Ok, hear me out.

I've watched a bit of CRL the past few seasons, and one thing is very obvious to me: the pros are incredibly toxic. They bm each other at every phase of the game with emotes whether they're winning or losing, refuse to shake hands after matches, and get incredibly tilted in general. The players are all fairly young and it's obvious they haven't learned to control their emotions well. This in and of itself isn't inexcusable, but after a couple seasons, you'd expect the coaches to teach good sportsmanship. The only other eSport I regularly watch is League of Legends (of course every few games someone taunts for a second or two after a kill), but CRL is on the next level. If this game ever wants to get the type of exposure and fan-base of other high profile games, they need to clean up this behavior. Pro sports is heavily scrutinized, and eSports is quickly becoming the same.

Honestly, I stopped watching after getting frustrated with the poor sportsmanship, and I hope the pro scene can take their attitudes more seriously. To name drop, I used to watch Surgical Goblin's channel a lot for tips and strategies, but now I've decided to stop after watching Team Liquid act childishly on stage numerous times. Really frustrating, but it's still early enough to correct this unacceptable conduct.

Tip for Grave Guards: Take LavaLoon. Guards can't attack air, so LavaLoon will be op.

Is it just me, or are people increasingly hellbent on ruining Triple Elixir with toxic, cancerous decks like this?
