[OFFICIAL] What We've Been Up To - 29th May 2020

    https://preview.redd.it/0kkpgk516r151.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec32805cb8b1f81622c4278177504516773c6a3f

    Hey Reddit,

I've seen a lot of posts over the last few days asking for more communication on our upcoming update so here it is!

I wanted to address some concerns that I have seen, so here we go…

    ---

    • "Why don't they just tell us what they are working on?"

This is a deliberate choice - I personally don't want to reveal any information until we have a bit more polish and a solid date for release.

As you can see, even releasing a teaser image early has lead to a lot of negativity when the update has not materialised etc.

    HYPE VS EXPECTATIONS

Those of you that remember the BIGGEST UPDATE EVER! (Touchdown) know how important it is to not overhype things and we want to manage expectations accordingly. Yes, not releasing an update for a while by default sets expectations, but that's a separate topic. Marketing also plays a role when revealing info - it's harder to make a big splash with a huge trailer etc if all the info is already released elsewhere.

And last of all - we want to make sure that what we show or reveal is going to be an accurate representation of what appears in-game. This is obviously easier closer to update completion.

    • "WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG!!!"

Developing takes time. Developing a brand new feature takes longer than modifying existing features.

Taking an existing feature, removing it and turning it into something completely new takes even longer!

When we started developing this update - the BIG problem to tackle was "We have so many cards in the game, but players only use 8. The game becomes infinitely more fun when you experiment with different decks and play with different cards, so how can we make players play with more than 1 deck. Oh, also this other thing needs some work.".

As we worked on our main vision for this update, we also created an entirely new way to play Royale that we ended up liking so much we wanted to put it in alongside the originally planned features.

Alongside this, the covid situation has provided new challenges for development, with ALL employees at Supercell working from home. This causes it's own problems especially for those with kids (no daycare = team members with young children have had a rough couple of months!).

The way we develop is very organic, we sit next to eachother and talk a lot, trade ideas, show eachother stuff regularly. While not at all a major reason for the update taking a long time, being apart has created its own unique issues.

At the end of the day, we want to make an update that we as a team are proud of and is up to the standard players have come to expect from Supercell games. If it takes a bit longer than usual, then that is something we are willing to let happen to get out a polished product.

    • "We don't want balance changes or new cards, we want an update!"

That's a fair enough response and opinion to hold. But some people do want new cards & alance changes!

In our minds when there is a long wait for an update it is better to keep introducing small changes (balances, new cards) than just have nothing change in the game for the duration of an update cycle.

    • "Stop making Seasons and focus on the update!"

Making new cards or seasons doesn't impact our ability to deliver Seasonal content or new cards - our team has people that are 100% working on the new update and others who are working on both the update AND the new Seasonal content. So it is never either/or.

The only time this changes is when stuff breaks (servers, app store issues, legal things) and we need to resolve those issues as a matter of priority.

    • "Well why don't you just release a smaller update?"

Sometimes smaller updates might be good, but we have this time decided to focus on a bigger feature that requires more thinking and development. Bigger features are more complex and sometimes you have to throw stuff out and go back to the drawing board to deliver the best feature possible.

    • "We haven't had an update in 11 months/1.5 years/2 years."

I see this a lot on Twitter lol, there seem to be varying opinions of when we released our last update.

Our last update was the end of November 2019. This is around 6 months ago and is for sure a long time to go without an update, I agree.

However since that last update we have released:

    • 5 x new cards (inc Skeleton Dragons)
    • 7 Seasons (all with balance changes/game modes/new cosmetic content)

This will continue until the update is out.

    ---

    TL;DR

We are still working on the update. It's taking a while but we will be revealing more in the future and are hyped to share it with you. Thanks for reading - it was a bit of a long one!

    ---

I respect that this is not an ideal situation for fans of the game, but I can only ask you for your patience, and if you can give that then know that it is greatly appreciated by myself and the rest of the team.

I know there will still be a lot of questions after this so I'll be sticking around tonight for a little while (it's Friday evening Finnish time) but will be popping on over the weekend to answer other questions as well (some of the most upvoted & others).

At the request of Orange Juice Gaming ... Fireball vs Musketeer, with explosion at the end! New animations and effects were added as well.

New Card Teaser in Season 12 TV Royale (Not Skeleton Dragons)

    Posted: 29 May 2020 09:33 AM PDT

When both players use the same cards at the same time to defend their x-bow... (nice coincidence)

    Posted: 29 May 2020 06:52 PM PDT

After 4 years, I think its time to make progression FASTER in the game.

    Posted: 29 May 2020 07:34 AM PDT

    Supercell:

The progression system (cards and gold required for leveling up a card) has been the SAME for over 4 years already.

I quit the game 3 years ago and came back 3 months ago, and the first thing I noticed was that all of these were excatly the same, while there were a LOT of new cards in the game.

I simple can't understand how you slept on this. How do you expect Ladder to get better if you are FORCING the majority of players to use the SAME deck they have been using for years over and over again, just because it takes an ETERNITY to max other decks out ??

There are A LOT of new cards in the game, and yet, the costs remains the same. Not to mention the chests didn't improve, they are still giving 2 coins and 4 cards.

I play Clash of Clans also, and they have been improving the progression system (timers and costs) A LOT lately, how come you can't do the same ?

This, IMO, its the FIRST thin you should address ASAP.

    Hope you read this.

You know the worst thing? The update is probably going to be a dissapointment.

    Posted: 29 May 2020 11:30 AM PDT

This is going to be the first season I'm not going to buy the battle pass. I've played since beta, it's my favourite mobile game of all time. We've been waiting for a year for a proper update and all we're getting is new arenas, tower skins and emotes that probably takes them 1 day AT MOST in total to design. Apart from the least unique card they've released in a while. And we haven't gotten a new legendary card in a long time (I think it was fisherman??) because at least that way F2P players will shut up. I'm sorry but I won't give you a cent this month.

Now imagine that in a whole year we get the update and it's not even worth the wait. Sorry, CR team, I've had a lot of faith in you in the past, and many of the updates were great, but I don't think I can trust you anymore after this dissapointment of a year. I REALLY, really hope I'm wrong.

Balance Changes - Clash Royale Season 12, June 2020

    Posted: 29 May 2020 09:01 AM PDT

Am I the only one who remembers these?

    Posted: 29 May 2020 09:33 AM PDT

    Please Supercell, just stop

    Posted: 29 May 2020 09:53 AM PDT

-Stop creating new cards that only the 1% with maxed account will enjoy

-stop creating useless arenas that no one will remember one month later

-stop creating stupid challenges with emotes as rewards

And start fixing your game, every dollar and second spent on this previous things are taken away from the important thing, and it's your core game

    Things to fix:

    -clan wars

    -challenges

    -tournaments

    -ladder

-Drew, a community manager that only communicates in one way, his way, with zero interest in the player base (you didn't even say sorry on ty royale, just "thank you for understanding" c'mon, you said you will answer some questions on that video...)

Supercell, as you can see, I don't think you should spent more time and energy in cosmetics when you have so many core problems to fix, it's just so stupid, it's like trying to clean a car that it's burning, useless and really stupid.

    Boycott pass royale

    Posted: 29 May 2020 12:38 AM PDT

What I'm proposing: we start a movement of not buying pass royale for the entire month of June.

I do think we should hear them out and not be 100% committed till they release their TV royale. I can't think of any reason they might have for stringing us along so long, but you never know. That being said, I wanted to plant the seed now in order to prepare.

I'm sure most of you already know why I'm suggesting this but for those that don't: there has been no update in over a year that actually changes a core aspect of the game. All changes have been aesthetic or minor balance changes that have taken little effort from the development team. They keep promising it is coming and giving teasers but have shown no actual progress. Since March we've all(or mostly all) have thought there's no way it's not coming this month, yet every time we are proven wrong.

We've complained and we've voiced our disgust here in humorous memes and direct rants. Supercell, though we've seen does watch these forums have shown little interest in what we say, and has given no reply. This is why I'm suggesting doing something that will effect them in a more serious way.

This isn't the kind of money that will bankrupt them or ruin their company, but by creating this kind of movement we will be reminding them that it's us that feed them and without us they are nothing.

So in summary, I'm suggesting that for a single month those of us that give that $5.00 US to support this game withhold it and make a point.

I've never attempted to set up something like this before so I am open to opinions on this subject, but I really feel it is time for something further to be done.

Edit: for all those saying this will do nothing, Drew just made a post on this subreddit to address our issue!! Not by any means saying this is all cause of my post, but it is because of all of you being outspoken with your frustration. Addressing our issues with a problem is never a waste of time!

    Skeleton Dragon Feedback Ignored

    Posted: 29 May 2020 05:36 PM PDT

Supercell told us that they wanted community feedback before releasing the skeleton dragon. Several YouTube channels demoed it and many thoughts were given.

I saw overwhelming feedback about it being far too similar to the baby dragon and being a lazy addition. The only positive feedback I ever heard was that we are welcoming a new air splasher.

How was this possibly taken as a green light/release as is? They haven't even changed the flame color which should be the bare minimum effort asked for.

    SEASON 12 BALANCE CHANGES

[EFFORT POST] New Game modes to Spice CR up!

    Posted: 29 May 2020 12:39 PM PDT

    BOSS MODE-

Trainer Cheddar got an upgrade and now is the EVIL menace to the CRverse. He has 3x the elixir and spawns some of the strongest troops, while the player only has 1min to deal dmg, but wait!!!! The player isn't alone! His teammates will be dealing dmg to the BOSS too and it's a team effort to bring down the HP of Trainer Cheddar. Once done, the players who participate will get to pick their rewards-Gold, Star Lvl Xp, Regular Xp, Cards, Tokens and more! Yes you get to pick your rewards and not RNG!

Trainer Cheddar has 50K hp(Idk know the number I just made it up, select it based on testing) and players have to face Cheddar one by one to get the HP down. (Its like Clan chest but instead of getting crowns, you have to deal HP dmg)

    Clan Chest-

You all know what this is and CR devs just bring it back, it makes sense and everyone liked it. You farm crowns and get the clan chest instantly once its complete and you don't have to wait 14 days to get the chest.

    Survival of your life-

You and your teammate (yes a 2v2 event), face another BOSS named Gannon! He is cheeky and a nasty Boss, he only spawns buildings and spells to defend his turf but only have 4 mins to destroy your tower, so you have to survive during that entire time to charge you ultimate weapon and if you don't, he will rocket cycle your tower out! The more building he has on his turf, the more rockets he sends out, the less buildings he has, the less rockets he cycles, so get those buildings out of sight to survive! And wait! He has 7x elixir while you only have 3x elixir! So its survival for your life! And if you survive the whole 4 mins then you unleash the ultimate weapon to destroy Gannon! THE EAGLE ARTILLERY BEAM!!! Once you defeat Gannon, you and your teammate get gold based on your battle!

You can do as many battles you like but you will get gold for only 2 matches if you win (to stop farming gold) you get 15k for beating Gannon. I know the payout is huge but the game mode is meant to be hard so it makes sense for the payout. The way to beat Gannon is to limit his building spawns, if he has enough buildings then he has extra elixir to send rockets. If you fail, you get small rewards for doing it (but also limited to a certain rewards so not to abuse it).

    Total Destruction-

The opponents towers (and yours) have been enchanted with the magical essence of the healer, the towers are now indestructible!!! So how do you win the fight? Well the most dmg done to the towers win! Instead of HP going down, you accumulate the dmg on all towers and the player with the most dmg win!!! 2v2 will be even better, more chaos and more destruction!!!

If you like these ideas, upvote it and share it around so the devs can know about it. If you have any comments, post them below!

Bomb Tower “Nerf” is a BUFF to me. The faster the Bomb Tower leaves, is the faster I can put a new one down on the prime tile. This “nerf” just created more Bomb Towers, More Death Bombs, with no change to HP or damage. TL;DR: I’m just going to cycle Bomb Towers 10 seconds FASTER. This is my deck:

If you buy/use this tower skin you are contributing to the lack of content the past year and fueling SC's excuses for update delays. Let's make this the worst skin as a community.
